Door Installation Guide
Armour Entries strongly suggests that you engage a qualified carpenter or installer to install your steel doors. This will help ensure products are being installed correctly and safely and will avoid any warranty issues due to incorrect installation.
The below guide is meant to be general in nature and provides tips to help with the installation process.
Professional Installation Recommended
If you are installing an external door, we recommend that you have a qualified builder or carpenter carry out the flashing of the outer frame. This will ensure compliance with Australian building standards and proper weatherproofing.
Pre-Installation Checklist
1. Ensure Strong, Secure Framing
Your framing must be strong and secure. If the wall surrounding your door isn't properly secured, this could cause movement after installation and potentially damage your door.
2. Check Opening is Plumb and Level
The opening in which you are going to install your door needs to be plumb and level. The opening must be level side to side—check this using a spirit level or laser level. The opening also must be plumb; check this using the same level on both sides of the opening. The floor beneath the doorway also needs to be level.
3. Verify Clearance
The opening should have a clearance of about 5mm at each side and 5mm at the top. This will ensure you have room to fit the door if your opening is slightly uneven.
Installation Steps
Step 1: Insert the Frame
Carefully insert the frame into the opening. Depending on the style of door, you may need to attach some components separately.
Step 2: Secure the Frame
Secure the frame into position by screwing through the reveals or frames where appropriate. Use packers on all sides of the opening, ensuring the frame remains plumb and level.
Step 3: Attach Door Panels
If required, attach door panels to fixed frames by clicking them into the hinges. Ensure smooth operation before final securing.
Step 4: Install Hardware
Finally, install all door hardware including handles, locks, and any decorative elements. Ensure they are fitted properly and test that the door opens, closes, and locks with ease.
